VSBW sponsor outdoor art gallery at Southsea

The VSBW team, a VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster joint venture, has proudly sponsored The Windbreaks, an outdoor art gallery located on the seafront near Speakers' Corner as part of the Southsea Coastal Scheme.

This unique gallery will be housed under a newly constructed shelter provided by Portsmouth City Council and built by VSBW. The space will feature a rotating showcase of different artists every four months.

VSBW who are delivering the Southsea Coastal Scheme will sponsor the first three The Windbreaks exhibitions in 2025.

Local oil painter Emily Faludy will be the first artist to display her work in the outdoor gallery. Emily was selected from 48 applicants for the opportunity to showcase her art at The Windbreaks.

“We're proud to support the incredible talent of local artists by sponsoring a project that celebrates creativity. "The Windbreaks project further enhances the engineering excellence we're building to protect Southsea by providing the community with a space that is far more than just a sea defence.”

Jon Benton Divisional Director

Cllr Steve Pitt, Portsmouth City Council Leader said: "The Windbreaks is part of the council's seafront arts programme to enhance the new sea defences through a series of sculptures and public art projects.

"By rotating the exhibitors, the gallery will showcase the wide variety of creative talent in our city and provide opportunities for the local arts community to exhibit their work in a popular, public space."

When the area of seafront between the Pyramids and Speakers' Corner opens in December 2024, visitors will be able to view five of Emily's still life paintings and five landscape paintings of locations including Portchester Harbour and the Isle of Wight.
