C2V+ working in partnership with United Utilities to deliver better rivers for the North West

At C2V+ we are currently supporting United Utilities to enhance and improve water quality in the River Wheelock.

Our team working at Sandbach Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) recently coordinated the delivery of two new tanks to site. The tanks will be used as additional storage for the chemicals which will be used to dose the effluent as part of the Capital Delivery Scheme at the site aimed at meeting new tighter permit conditions that will come into force from December 2024. These tanks are large and too wide to fit down the access track to site, so the team coordinated an alternative route through the adjacent residential housing estate, along with a 400 tonne crane that was used to lift them into position.

This project is just one of the schemes across the North West to create better rivers, helping to make the North West stronger, greener and healthier. As part of this scheme, we are upgrading the treatment process which will enhance the standard of treatment. The new equipment will also increase the treatment capacity of the works, whilst focusing on phosphorus removal. The team has already completed the installation of a new filtration system to enhance the treated wastewater returned to the environment.

The successful delivery of these tanks was down to a full team effort – working effectively and efficiently to ensure their safe arrival.

We look forward to sharing future updates on this work and the wider projects we’re undertaking with United Utilities right across the North West which will be part of the largest upgrade of the infrastructure for a century.
