Stockton
VolkerGround Engineering has completed a project for Bowmer & Kirkland, installing Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) bearing piles and a sheet pile retaining wall at a new Hampton by Hilton hotel in Stockton-on-Tees. The works were completed using a PVE 55 and ABI TM 13/16 leader rig.
The new Hampton by Hilton Hotel is part of the Northshore regeneration scheme, building new business and leisure facilities near Stockton town centre.
The team on site faced challenging ground conditions and had to carefully plan the logisitics of this build. This ensured that the sheet and CFA piles were installed in the correct sequence within the split level working area. The team began construction from the lower level with CFA piles, a number of these could only be constructed once the sheet piles were installed, providing access to the upper level.
The team provided a combined solution of steel and concrete, which allowed the principal contractor to award a single contract that covered both requirements.
This provided a benefit to the client of less subcontractor interfaces to manage. Being able to manage both disciplines was both a time-saving and cost effective benefit for Bowmer & Kirkland.
