Peckham Totem Pole restored!

The VolkerStevin team working on the Lost Peck project, on behalf of Southwark Council, has recently donated £1,000 towards the restoration of the Peckham Totem Pole.

Our team working on the Lost Peck Environmental Improvements and Flood Alleviation Scheme has been working to reduce flood risk to over 200 properties in the area of East Dulwich. The team has installed flood bunds to create a flood attenuation reservoir with landscaping and drainage throughout the historic common, this will reduce the amount of surface water run-off. Alongside flood prevention they have also been working to enhance the area and make it an enjoyable space for local residents to enjoy.

The totem pole was originally commissioned by Southwark Council in 2013 and created by local artist, mORGANICo. Over the past 11 years the totem pole has suffered wear and tear due to the weather. The funds raised, as part of Southwark Council’s ‘Cleaner Greener Safer’ program, will go towards restoration and upkeep including yearly coatings of wood preservative, removal of graffiti and damage repairs.

Alongside the donation, the team also carried out some remedial works in the surrounding area and placed a wildflower turf around the base of totem pole.

The Peckham Totem Pole is a much-loved public work of art, so we were honoured to be able to play a part in helping to restore the totem pole to its former glory and contribute to its future maintenance.
