Macclesfield team inspiring the next generation of engineers

The C2V team working on the Macclesfield Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) recently visited St James Catholic High School.

Students stood around a pole

Led by Site Agent Sam Beacham, the visit kicked off with an introduction to VolkerStevin and the diverse range of projects we’re proud to work on. Sam also gave students a behind-the-scenes talk about the work happening at Macclesfield WwTW.

The students then got stuck into interactive sessions led by our civil, electrical and mechanical engineers. Students had the opportunity to learn how to use GPS technology and setting out equipment, allowing them to draw a house to scale—a fun and practical way to understand how we build the world around us. They also explored hydraulic modelling by experimenting with water tanks, drills, and pumps, gaining hands-on experience in managing water systems on-site. Additionally, our team guided them through the various stages of engineering projects, from design to delivery, bringing real-world processes to life in an engaging and interactive way.

A parent of one of the students from St James Catholic High School said: “My daughter came home with such enthusiasm about the visit, it was clear to see that you had delivered an incredibly valuable and interactive session.

“My daughter would like to work in engineering and this session has amplified that determination even more!”

It is great to see that our teams are inspiring students to consider careers in engineering. Visits like this not only spark interest but also highlight the impact of major projects like Macclesfield WwTW.
