Dover Western Docks Revival

VolkerSite Services was awarded a contract by VSBW, a joint venture comprising VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster, to supply and fit CTX welfare and site accommodation at Dover Western Docks Revival Scheme.

The accommodation consisted of 34no. modular units with 2no. balcony units spanning over 2-storeys. The two-bay-balcony overlooking the Port of Dover was a key selling point for the client as it provided them with clear views of the project.

The assembly of the CTX units required the use of a 40tonne mobile crane to lift the units into the location, ready for installation and internal fit out. The installation was carried out over a three-week period.

With the site accommodation works falling under the main contractor’s critical path, VolkerSite Services supplied two teams to support the install. The first team erected the units and positioned them into the required location. Following this, the second VolkerSite Services team then completed the internal fit out. By using two teams to support the install, we were able to reduce the amount of time required on site, thus resulting in an early hand over date.

Once complete, the ground floor accommodation was used as a communal canteen area, with an on-site chef and capacity of up to 150 people.

The first floor area now provides a large open plan office space to accommodate 24 members of staff. On this floor there is also a meeting room capable of holding 18 people, as well as a small segregated office space for storage and private working.

The client was so impressed with the CTX welfare and site accommodation hired from VolkerSite Services that they bought the units.
