VolkerGround Engineering at the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology
Towards the end of last year, VolkerGround Engineering completed piling works for valued client, Tilbury Douglas, as a part of an exciting project for the new Greater Manchester Institute of Technology at the University of Salford.
VolkerGround Engineering designed and constructed 600mm diameter CFA bearing piles, bored to 26.4 metres into Manchester sandstone, using the advanced Soilmec SR-95 piling rig with air-injection.
The piles were set to support the load of a cutting-edge, low-carbon, steel-framed building. Once completed, the structure will feature a state-of-the-art green roof, with photovoltaic panels for renewable energy and a living green wall sustained by rainwater harvesting systems.
As part of VolkerGround Engineering’s commitment to social value, the team welcomed students to site to experience the operations undertaken on a live piling project, and to gain insight into the technical aspects of piling. David Coyle, Technical Manager at VolkerGround Engineering, shared his piling expertise with the students.
The team wish the students every success in their studies, VolkerGround Engineering is proud to support future innovators in engineering!
