Prescott Channel

Prescott Channel

The Prescott Channel was built in 1930-1935 as part of the flood relief scheme for the River Lee Navigation in the East End of London, and was named after Sir William Prescott, the then chairman of the Lee Conservancy Board.

After the 2012 Olympics were awarded to London, it was decided that the existing waterways of the city would be utilised to transport the building materials to the various Olympic sites. VolkerGround Engineering carried out the installation of heavy AZ piles ranging from 14.9m to 18.1m long which formed part of the walls used to widen the channel in order to allow the barges to deliver the materials to the Olympic sites. The works were carried out in close proximity to Three Mills Studios and work was suspended on numerous occasion during the programme to allow the filming of the Channel 4 show Hells Kitchen.
