VolkerStevin recently took part in Open Doors, an initiative delivered by Build UK which takes visitors behind the scenes to showcase the range of careers available in construction.
Throughout the week a number of schools visited our Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme and the Southsea Coastal Scheme, to find out more about the projects and our industry.
Upon arrival the students were given a presentation which explained the various roles and responsibilities required on site, alongside an overview of the project and the work being undertaken. The students were then taken on a site tour and the site team finished the visit with a Q&A.
Careers Coordinator from Oarsome Chance said: "The visit today was incredible, it really helped to plant a seed of interest for a couple of our students. They are rarely offered this type of insight, so it was very impactful.”
Open Doors is an opportunity for VolkerStevin to help the younger generation gain insight into what it is like to work within the construction industry. It was great to raise awareness with these students of the many, onsite and office-based roles which are required to deliver a project. The construction industry needs to recruit almost 45,000 new entrants each year (according to Construction Skills Certification Scheme), and Open Doors aims to show that the industry offers rewarding careers.
