Southsea Coastal Scheme continue work at Frontage 5

The team working on the Southsea Coastal Scheme have made great progress with the concrete slab pouring for the promenade on Frontage 5 having successfully poured 120 out of the 201 promenade slabs. This includes all of the slabs which the Victorian shelters will sit on. We are currently refurbishing the shelters and they will be placed back along the promenade by the end of November.

Construction on Frontage 3 – Blue Reef Aquarium to Hovertravel will begin towards the end of October, as the team begins a new phase of development. Frontage 3 will feature a combination of stepped and rock revetment which will provide the main sea defence on this frontage, with a managed beach. A raised embankment with a slope into Southsea Common will provide the secondary defence, the promenade and road will be raised to maintain sea views.

Frontage 3 will become a great space for the local community as coastal planted terraces, play areas and seating will be installed. This area of the promenade will also provide an excellent space for events and is expected to be reopened by 2026.
