Rutendo Makuni shortlisted for BPIC Network’s Inspiring Diversity Champion Award

Rutendo Makuni, Assistant Quantity Surveyor at VolkerStevin working on our Pevensey Star Inn Gates project, has been shortlisted for a Black Professionals In Construction (BPIC) Network Award.

Rutendo has been shortlisted in the Inspiring Diversity Champion category, this award recognises individuals who have inspired the drive in diversity and inclusion within the construction industry. Rutendo was nominated for her work providing mentorship to others, initiatives she has driven and the time she spends organising events and writing articles outside of her day job.

Commenting on the award shortlisting, Rutendo said: “Being shortlisted, even just being nominated, is still a shock. I am grateful that my efforts are being noticed but most importantly impactful. I only do and will continue to do what I wish someone else had done for me, which is to speak about the reality and not just the theory of it all. The feedback from anything I have ever posted, written or organised is what makes it worth the time and the effort outside of my day job.

“Sometimes all it takes is just that one memorable thing we see and it can change people’s perspective or influence a career decision and I am always mindful of this.”
